Siskiyou Mountains, Southern Oregon

Mt. Ashland Ski Area

Mt. Ashland is a nonprofit community ski area on the Siskiyou Crest. Its learning slopes, groomed runs, glades and steep bowl give friends different ways to spend a Southern Oregon snow day without treating every part of the mountain as beginner terrain.

  • Sonnet and First Act learning terrain
  • Steep bowl and wooded runs

Terrain and ability at Mt. Ashland

The First Act learning carpet and Sonnet area provide an introduction to skiing and snowboarding. The bowl and steeper wooded terrain are a different proposition. Use the current trail map and an instructor's guidance to choose the next step beyond the learning area.

Arrival, bases and lessons

Lesson guests check in at the ticket desk in the Karen and Sid DeBoer Lodge. Allow time for equipment fitting before heading to the learning center near Sonnet; check the resort's current road and operating information before leaving town.

Plan a meetup at Mt. Ashland

Use a specific landmark at the lodge for the first meeting, then choose a regroup point outside the Sonnet loading area. Friends exploring steeper runs can return for a scheduled break while learners keep their lesson and limited-area ticket plans.

Use the meetup message planner to agree on your date, terrain, pace and meeting point.
